7/12/2010 Open House!

On December 28 we are holding an open house. You are welcome to visit us and learn about our curriculums, how we use CranioSacral Therapy, Neural- and Visceral Manipulation to evaluate and treat for various conditions. On the day you are welcome to come onto the treatment table and observe and feel the effect of the treatment free of charge. On this day we will be open from 12.00 to 20.00 tea, coffee and julegløgg will be served.

7/12/2010 New curriculum starts in August 2011.

The start date for the new 660 hour curriculum in craniosacral techniques has been moved to August 2011.

New website
Finally the Institute has a new website. The old one was made through simple means back in 2002 and was long overdue to be replaced.

There are two significant changes that have happened with this new website.

First of all will there be a news section, and this will be accompanied by an email newsletter that will be sent regularly. If you are now already signed up for it, but if you do not wish to receive news from us, there is a link at the bottom of the email where you can sign out. There will no longer be a printed Newsletter.

Some of the news will be more directed to each country, so not all news will appear in each language section. So make sure you read the ones pertaining to the country of interest to you. There might be some information there about study groups or other meetings arranged locally.

The second important change is that the whole process of registering to a course is now fully automated through an online booking system. As you sign in to become a user you will receive a code and a password. This you must use in order to gain access to the booking system. Once inside, you can follow the calendar to the date of the course you wish to join and click on it. You will then be taken through to completion of registration and you how you choose to make the payment. There will be a choice between credit card payments and to receive an invoice for making a bank transfer. If you choose the bank transfer, you will need to make the transfer into the bank account in Denmark as the ones in Norway, Sweden and Finland will be closed due to these changes. So the card payment is likely to be the easiest option for you.

This however also means that all prices will be made in Danish krona, even if other currencies may be referred to on other parts of the website. Those would be mentioned in order to give an estimate price.

Teacher certifications

I will be holding a teacher training seminar at the end of this year here in Copenhagen for international apprentices. This will include one from Sweden so hopefully next year we will be able to increase the number of our certified Scandinavian instructors to at least three.
This summer the current instructors have also achieved a significant milestone. Alison Harvey is now certified to teach CST-2 and August Axelsson has now been certified to teach SER-1.

New book
Our craniosacral instructor Alison Harvey has a keen interest in the Visceral Manipulation work, developed by French Osteopath Jean Pierre Barral. She has now written a book on the subject called: A Pathway to Health. “How Visceral Minipulation Can  Help You”. In this book she explains the ideas behind the Visceral and Nerve Manipulation in simple terms, suitable for the general public. It is rich in stories of her clinical experiences and explains why this modality is a good option for patients seeking help. This book is highly recommendable.
Pre-order the Book by sending a mail to post@upledger.dk

Alison will be teaching craniosacral classes in Stockholm on August 26-29 and in Helsinki on October 14-17. She will be happy to sign your copy of the book.

New Curriculum in craniosacral techniques
The intended start for the new 660 hours curriculum in craniosacral techniques, for people with no medical or therapy background has been moved from August 2010 to January 2011. We simply ran out of time for preparing for it.

This curriculum is open to anyone who wants to become fully trained as a therapist having craniosacral techniques as the basic foundation and not as an extra modality.

Here in Denmark if fulfils the criteria to become VAT exempt and to become a registered therapist (RAB). We have divided this curriculum into two main parts called craniosacral techniques and anatomy and physiology (and pathology). Both these parts will take one year to complete, but it is not necessary to take them over the same year. If taken together the process will last one year, if taken separately it will take two years. At the end of the process and upon passing exams, certification will be given to become certified at techniques level. Read more here

We will later on be able to provide this in the other Nordic countries through our collaborators.

New certified therapists
For many years the Upledger Institute has offered course participants the opportunity to prove through exam, the knowledge of and ability to practise craniosacral therapy at two levels; techniques level (based on the first two levels of curriculum) and diplomate level (based on the whole curriculum).

Last year we took on administering these exams for the Nordic region. There are now a growing number of practitioners who are working on the essay part of the techniques exams. So far, two have now completed the whole process and have become certified as craniosacral therapists at techniques level. They are therefore entitled to use the letters CST after their names as a signal of achievement of certification. So congratulations go to Marianne Videkull in Umeå in Sweden, and to Jonna Stillhoff in Holbæk Denmark.

There has been an increasing demand for craniosacral classes both from our collaborators within the Scandinavian countries as well as internationally. The Institute is always working hard to improve the service, quality and the number of places to offer these classes in. This year I (August) have found myself teaching in Ireland, Hungary, New Zealand and Australia. So this has been a busy year so far.
